The Fareast 28R is designed around an eight-person team, with clear responsibilities distributed across the boat. From the helm and mainsail trim to jib and gennaker handling, tactical decisions and crew positioning, every manoeuvre depends on precise coordination.

That makes the 28R not only a racing platform, but also a powerful tool for developing crew cohesion and competitive capability.

The One Design structure of the Fareast 28R brings teams together under common rules and closely matched boat conditions. In this environment, results depend more heavily on training, race strategy and execution than on differences in equipment.

For clubs, sailing schools and organizations building long-term racing programs, the 28R provides a clear development path from regular training to fleet building and organised competition.  

A Racing System Built for Continuous Improvement

The Fareast 28R features a comprehensive racing control system, including mainsail adjustment and fine-tuning controls, an adjustable back-stay, jib winches, a mainsail traveller and a gennaker system.

Together, these systems give the crew greater scope to refine sail trim and boat setup for different wind conditions and racing environments.

With repeated training, teams can continue to improve boat speed, manoeuvre execution, onboard processes and crew coordination.

For an established racing crew, the 28R offers more than simply a boat to race. It provides a platform for continuous competitive development.

Modern Design for Modern Racing

The Fareast 28R was designed in 2014 by Simonis Voogd.

From the outset, the design considered the demands of modern sport keel boat sailing, including crew handling, racing requirements and fleet use.

The 28R uses a vacuum-infused sandwich hull structure, supported by 3D tooling design, five-axis machining and CNC manufacturing processes.

This controlled manufacturing approach provides the consistency required to support a One Design racing environment.
