Designed by Julian Bethwaite, this double-handed, single-trapeze skiff combines a lightweight hull with a self-tacking jib and asymmetric spinnaker to deliver the responsive, high-speed sailing that has defined the class around the world. Fair racing depends on consistent equipment.
The concept behind the 29er is uncompromisingly simple: light, responsive and fast. A 74 kg hull is paired with 12.5 m² of upwind sail area and a 15 m² asymmetric spinnaker for downwind performance. The self-tacking jib simplifies manoeuvres and allows the sailors to concentrate on balance, speed and positioning, while the single trapeze places the crew directly into the dynamics of controlling the boat. As the breeze builds, the 29er comes alive. Acceleration becomes immediate. Balance becomes critical. Every movement matters.

A Proven Pathway into Performance Sailing
The 29er is a World Sailing recognized international class, with World Championships, continental championships and international racing around the globe. It is also raced at the World Sailing Youth Sailing World Championships.
For many ambitious young sailors, however, its significance goes further. The trapeze technique, asymmetric spinnaker handling, dynamic balance and high-speed teamwork developed in the 29er provide a strong foundation for progression into high-performance classes including the Olympic 49er and 49erFX.

ONE DESIGN
The 29er is a strict One Design class. Hull, rig, sails, foils, fittings and equipment are governed by class rules, with builders required to manufacture in accordance with the specifications of the class. In One Design racing, the objective is not to redesign the boat to gain an advantage. It is to reproduce the design accurately and consistently. Same design.Same standard. Racing decided on the water. That is the principle behind the class.

In 2026, the Far East factory was appointed as a class builder by the International 29er Class Association. For FAREAST, building the 29er is not about changing a proven design. It is about respecting it. Our role is to manufacture the boat in accordance with the requirements of the 29er class, translating a tightly controlled One Design specification into race equipment sailors can train and compete with. Because in a class built around equal equipment, manufacturing has a clear purpose: Build the boat to the standard. Then let the sailors make the difference.
